It’s funny how some features that seem so natural and cool get ultimately cut out from the game.
I’ve added impact sounds for falling buildings, cars and other objects that the hole can absorb or tip over. Only after adding them I’ve realized how many impacts are actually happening in the game (lots of them). The impact sounds turned out to be very annoying. I’ve limited them by distance from the player, added more variations, changing sound levels depending on falling object size and speed of impact, removed object intercollision sounds, even limited the maximum number of collision sounds that can be played in a second - but still they were just very annoying most of the time. So I removed them to spare players’ ears.
Sure, the impact sounds added to the realism, but games are about having fun not realism.
