I’ve been on a vacation for more than a week and now slowly catching up. Here’s the video of what the latest prototype of my new game looks like at the moment.
The goal is to defend yourself and your cows from aliens attacking through a portal. Single player or splitscreen coop

The problem was in Unity’s dead zone implementation for analogue input.
Here is an awesome article about doing it right in a number of ways (Unity’s implementation is described as the naive one here): http://www.third-helix.com/2013/04/12/doing-thumbstick-dead-zones-right.html

Today I ran into very interesting problem while implementing controls for my twin-stick shooter game: whenever a character looks directly to north, south, east or west he sticks to that direction and small thumbsticks movements don’t do anything to turn him. That feels very strange, frustrating and unnatural. The effect can be seen in this video: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=zLOm89RWZX0

Today my free game Avalanche Run was removed from the Google Play Store due to incorrect content rating.
Guess why? Because the icon of the app feature a main hero smoking a cigar.
The funny things are:
1. I discovered this by accident (Gmail filters google play store messages to "updates" section which noone reads anyway
2. I actually edited the content rating when I originally published the game back in February, but it didn't apply and the Google PLay support told me it's okay.

Creating full-featured games for mobile phones is with complex control schemes is quite a task, even a twin-stick shooter design is a challenge because player typically can use only two thumbs simultaneously to control something on the phone, while on a gamepad player has an immediate access to triggers or shoulder buttons with his index fingers while still using both thumbs.
A lot of games suffer from from this problem including competitive shooters like PUBG, so it's fun to watch how players themselves come up with a really creative artisenal solutions to this kind of problems, like this guy who uses aluminium foil to add shoulder buttons to his phone
